The $1,000 featureless “I am Rich” iPhone application has been removed by Apple

A total of eight iPhone owners are part of an elite membership: Their Apple iPhone is running a program that costs $1,000. The program is a third-party application that alerts people that you have money in the bank! The eight people that bought this application now have a red icon on their iPhone screen with the subtext “I Am Rich” on it. Once activated, the application displays a large glowing gem. All this for One Thousand Dollars .
The application was developed by Armin Heinrich and his application was available for purchase from the iPhone’s App Store for $999.99. It must have rubbed Apple the wrong way because it has been removed from the iPhone App store without any explanation from Apple. Heinrich, a German software developer, has yet to hear back from Apple concerning the removal.
The eight people who bought the application were able to discover it before Apple could remove the application. Six of them were from the United States, one from Germany and one from France. They forked out 1000$ for the gem in the first 24 hours it was available, Heinrich said. That’s $5,600 in revenue for Heinrich and $2,400 for Apple, which collects 30% of each sale for “store upkeep”.
One theory why it was removed is that most people thought that it was a joke. An image of a review at the App Store floating on the Internet shows a user complaining that he purchased it accidentally. The image read: “I saw this app with a few friends and we jokingly clicked ‘buy’ thinking it was a joke, to see what would happen. … THIS IS NO JOKE…DO NOT BUY THIS APP AND APPLE PLEASE REMOVE THIS FROM THE APP STORE”
