3 Review for the iHome iH5 Alarm Clock Radio for iPod (Black & White)
It’s a great gadget for the price.
I remember buying this clock radio a couple of years ago when the first generation Nanos came out. I eventually upgraded to another model but it was a great gadget.
Pros:
1) The sound is very good on this system. At the time I bought it, I paid 120$. Since that is pretty cheap for a speaker, clock radio and an iPod dock, I expected the sound to not be that great. I was pleasantly surprised with the iH5’s speakers.
2) Docking it with your iPod is very simple. I had a first-gneration iPod Nano and it was very simple for me to dock my Nano on it. The Nano adapter came with the iH5 and it took 2 seconds to setup.
3) It has a radio. My biggest complaint with iPods has always been the lack of an AM/FM radio. The iHome iH5 helps me forget about this complaint.
4) It looks really cool. I feel that it is the prettiest iPod docking station out there.
Cons:
1) The gradual wake up is not as gradual as they claim.
2) The display light is simply too bright. It was so bright that I used to put a pillow in front of the display to block it at night.
3) It does not come with a remote control. iHome wants you to pay extra for the remote control. Every other clock radio comes with a remote. What were they thinking?
Overall, the iH5 is a great unit. Even though iPod Stuff Reviews claims that it sells for under 99$, you can probably get it for under 50$ because it is quite old. If you want a better unit without the annoyances of the iH5, then I would suggest that you get an iH9.
This thing has the worst alarm clock ever. I spent a full hour trying to set the alarm clock on this thing! I gave up and ended up using my wrist watch.
I hope that they’ve fixed this problem in the newer models, but this thing really has the worst alarm clock ever.
